Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh returned to practice Wednesday after missing four games because of an ankle injury suffered in the second week of the season.
Coach John Harbaugh had said Oweh was close to coming back, and he will be a welcome addition to a position group that has relied heavily on veterans Jadeveon Clowney and Kyle Van Noy. He was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday’s injury report.
Oweh was off to a strong start in his third NFL season with four quarterback hits in the Ravens’ opening win over the Houston Texans.
“He’ll take a lot of reps, as much as he can with where he’s at healthwise,” Harbaugh said. “We have a bunch of guys rotating in now.”
Only safety Marcus Williams (hamstring), defensive end Brent Urban (neck) and cornerback Kevon Seymour (ankle) were missing from practice as the Ravens began preparations for Sunday’s home game against the Detroit Lions (5-1). Linebacker Malik Harrison (concussion protocol) was a limited participant, while Clowney (knee) was present but received a rest day.
Clowney did speak with reporters after practice and said no one will be happier than him to have Oweh back in the mix.
“For sure, man. I’m tired of getting chip blocked,” he said. “Having him out, there, it’s another dog out there. We miss him. … I think he’s just waiting on his time to peak in this league. He kind of reminds me of myself, a guy that just comes to practice to work extremely hard and brings it every day. It just hasn’t rolled over to the games quite yet, and I feel like his time’s coming. I tell him every day, ‘I think you’re like a sleeper, man.’”
With Williams unlikely to play against the Lions, the Ravens signed safety Andrew Adams, a veteran with eight interceptions in 100 career games, to their practice squad. Adams could be called up to fill in for Williams, as could defensive back DeAndre Houston-Carson, who has spent more time with the team.
For the Lions, running backs David Montgomery (ribs) and Craig Reynolds (hamstring/toe) and guard Jonah Jackson (ankle) did not practice Wednesday while running back Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring), center Frank Ragnow (toe), defensive back Brian Branch (ankle) and tight end Sam LaPorta (calf) were limited participants.
