FOXBORO — Prior to Monday’s practice, Patriots coach Bill Belichick hadn’t spoken with reporters in five days. By the time he stepped back behind a microphone, he wasn’t feeling any more loquacious than normal.
Belichick declined to address Matthew Judon’s reworked contract first reported late Friday night, saying: “I’m not going to get into any contract talks, before, during or after.”
But was Belichick happy with the deal?
“Yeah,” he began, “any time we sign a contract, then we were happy with it. They were happy with it, and it’s done.”
He also dodged a question about second-year cornerback Jack Jones abruptly leaving last Thursday’s practice for 20 minutes before returning and watching from the sidelines.
“We’re just working through practice day by day,” Belichick said. “I think (cornerbacks coach) Mike (Pellegrino) talked about it. I don’t have anything to add.”
On Friday, Pellegrino told reporters: “We had a conversation. That conversation is personal, and we’re moving on to training camp (Day) 9 and (will) watch him grow each day forward.”
